Today we are going to learn some Polish abbreviations. I’m going to cover both official and the ones which may be seen in the Internet or in text messages.

Let’s start with the official ones. Dots or their lack are important in each of these abbreviations!

Etc. — et cetera — et cetera;
wg (mnie) — według (mnie) — in (my) opinion;
jw. — jak wyżej — like it’s written above;
itd. — i tak dalej — and so on;
itp. — i tym podobne — and similar ones;
PS — postscriptum — post script;
ww. — wyżej wymienione — listed above;
ds. — do spraw — occupated by;
ul. — ulica — street;
pl. — plac — (city) square;
r. — rok — year;
godz. — godzina — hour;
cdn. — ciąg dalszy nastąpi — to be continued;
m.in. — między innymi — the examples are;
tj. — to jest — that is;
nr — numer — number;
tzn. — to znaczy — that means;
tzw. — tak zwany — so called;
np. — na przykład — for example;
ok. — około — about;
b.d. — brak danych — no data;
odp. — odpowiedź — answer;
zł — złoty(ch) — złoty;
gr — grosz(y) — grosz.

Now the „unofficial” abbreviation. I mostly dislike them I wouldn’t suggest you using these. However, it’s worth knowing what they mean. And you can use them as well, if you want to.

BK — beka — that’s so funny;
cb — ciebie — you;
wjb — [vulgar] — I don’t care;
jprdl — [vulgar] — I’m disgusted;
nmzc — nie ma za co — you’re welcome; no problem;
dozo — do zobaczenia — see you;
pozdro — pozdrowienia — greetings;
dosko. — doskonale — perfectly;
bd — będę, będziesz, będzie, będziemy — will be;
wgl — w ogóle — by the way; at all;
sb — siebie, sobie — one’s self;
tb — tobie — you;
cp? — co porabiasz? — what are you doing?;
cze — cześć — hi;
zw — zaraz wracam — I’ll be right back;
jj — już jestem — I’m already here;
kc — kocham cię — I love you;
pdk — pozdro dla kumatych — greetings for the smart ones;
ocb — o co biega — what’s going on;
nw/ nwm — nie wiem — I don’t know;
jbc — jakby coś — if something happens; by the way;
spk/ spx/ spox — spoko — OK;
zdj — zdjęcie — photo;
kom — komentarz/ komórka — comment/ mobile phone.
